Smartphones are a great little distractor. They can sit comfortably in our pockets, just waiting to be whipped out to dissolve time, right in front of your eyes. Needless to say, the smartphone caters to procrastinators and time-wasters alike, with literally thousands of apps available in the palm of your hand. Not all of them are good of course, but some are just the ticket to liven up a boring commute or a dreary lunch hour at the office. Be it games or gambling, smartphones are absolute life-savers in the right conditions. Here are three of the best ways to kill time on your phone; just be careful you don’t get addicted in the process.
1 – S.E.D. Special Enquiry Detail
Putting you smack bang in the middle of a virtual episode of C.S.I., S.E.D. is one of those rare beasts of a smartphone game; a detective/mystery puzzler. We reviewed it last month, and were impressed by the detail it went into, with everything from interrogations to suspect boards. There are eight major cases to crack, with over forty unsettling crime scenes to investigate, so there’s plenty to do to ensure you won’t get bored quickly. The game is particularly engrossing if you’re a fan of the True Crime genre, or any one of the numerous police procedurals currently topping the global TV charts. S.E.D. makes you feel like you’re the leading man or lady of one of these shows; and what could be cooler than that?
2 – Kiwanuka
Kiwanuka is an action-puzzle game where you essentially play God. You guide a gang of tiny citizens to an exit, instructing them where to go and where to build towers, where to knock down those towers and where to construct makeshift bridges. It’s an enchanting, strange little app that scores high on graphics, with simple, evocative designs and vivid colours. It’s also rather addictive (let’s be honest, any game where you get to play God would be), and will keep you coming back for more civilisation-saving over and over again.
3 – William Hill Live Sports Betting
Whether it’s real money or play money, there’s just something about gambling that stirs the blood. Already incredibly popular since time immemorial and growing more so by the day, gambling has had an incredibly smooth transition to mobile, with millions of people logging on each day to their virtual hat in the virtual ring, metaphorically speaking. Whether you throw down at the Roxy Palace or take a spin on sports with William Hill, smartphone gambling is sure to make those dull comments fly by with the ecstasy of victory, or less appealingly, the agony of loss.
