The English vocabulary is something I have always longed to improve. I even once followed a Twitter account called “Word of the Day” and waited with baited breath for the new word, together with its meaning, delivered via a tweet to my inbox every morning. Now with this app called WordCaptain, my vocabulary can be increased whenever I read an article, story, magazine piece or book online.

The app tests all the skills of reading, writing and listening to the word you have selected. Let’s say you are reading an article and you trip up over a word you might have heard of before but you just can’t understand its meaning within the text; WordCaptain captures the word and gives it the full meaning and tells you how it should sound. It also translate the word into many different languages.

In fact, WordCaptain is an app with 22 dictionaries translating English into a number of popular languages including French, German, Italian and Spanish. It also translates a word into lesser-known languages like Simplified Chinese, Punjabi and Mandarin.

Improving your vocabulary should be the goal of all of us and I can still remember the days, as a child, looking up a word in the dictionary, finding the first letter, searching frantically for the second, then the third and so on – it could take a fairly long time to hunt for that word – and this is all assuming you knew how it was spelt roughly.

Apps have made our life easier and learning faster and more dynamically is one of the greatest technological advances we have achieved in recent years. WordCaptain not only spells out the word for you but lets you know how it might sound, how it has different meaning within a paragraph you have just read and how it looks in a different language.

I’m sure some of us might remember the days when we had an Oxford English Dictionary and a Spanish-English dictionary, or a French-English dictionary? WordCaptain is all of these and more – in just the one app it has the dynamic resource to find words that would have required some 23 thick books only 30 years ago.

Now you can improve your vocabulary of the English language with an ease yesterday’s language students and pupils might only have dreamed about. In fact, reading, speaking, writing and listening has never been so much fun with WordCaptain.
