Are you a fan of Red Box? Are you a VZW subscriber? Then this news is sure to get you excited. US phone carrier Verizon Wireless announced today that they are teaming up with daily rental giant RedBox for a new service designed to rival Netflix. Being called “project Zoetrope” the service looks to combine DVD/Blu-Ray rentals at RedBox locations with a streaming component on the IPhone and other smartphones, and full length downloads thrown in for good measure. It sounds like a combination of Netflix and Direct2Drive, and it will be interesting to see what content deals VZW manages to pull off.
