One of the main reasons I got an iPhone was for the mobile browsing. I love the fact that I can check my email, update my Facebook, or look up football scores wherever I go. I use the internet on my iPhone even more than I use the apps (my phone bill can attest to that). But recently like many other iPhone owners, I’ve realized that Safari Browser isn’t that great. It’s not horrible, but it’s lacking. So I decided to try looking for a replacement. I went through tens of mobile browser apps, and some were pretty good. But the one that stuck out the most was Sleipnir.
Sleipnir is amazing. There’s no other way to put it. It makes all the other mobile browsers look underdeveloped. It has everything I was looking for in a browser, and more. With tons of great features, a fantastic user interface, and the fact that it’s free, what more could you possibly want? Here are a couple of its features, just to name a few:
Tabbed Browsing:
Sleipnir brings a real tabbed browsing experience to your iPhone. No more zooming out to change tabs. If you’re in one tab and you want to move to the next one, simply swipe to the side. All you HootSuite users will feel right at home. At the bottom of the page, there’s a little bar that shows you all the tabs you have open, and should you want to close one, just swipe down on it. It’s that simple. Alternatively, drawing an “L” on the screen will also close the open tab.
Grouped tabs:
This is by far my favorite feature. Have you ever wanted to separate your tabs? What do I mean? I like to have a lot of tabs open at the same time. But one tab doesn’t necessarily have anything to do with another. One tab may be a news site, and the one next to it can be a site for shopping. So Sleipnir added grouped tabs. By clicking the button in the bottom right corner, you’ll be taken to a page that shows you all your tab groups. Now, you can separate news from shopping, movies from blogs, and so on. Think a certain tab would do better in another group? No problem! You can drag tabs from one group to another. I’ve been using this for a couple days now, and I can’t imagine surfing the web without it.
Bookmark Folders:
Similar to grouped tabs, but for bookmarks. Have a bunch of favorite sports sites? Bookmark them all and add them to the sports folder. No need to go through a long and cluttered list of bookmarks, just separate them all into folders. It makes sense if you think about it. Before this I had to scroll through a HUGE list of bookmarks to find a particular one, and now, I’ve got them all sorted into several different folders. It’s been a real time saver.
At the end of the day, if there’s something that will make your life easier, is there really a reason not to get it? Sleipnir makes an already simple system simpler. By adding some new crucial features, our beloved internet becomes a powerhouse. Bye bye Safari, hello Sleipnir (still not sure how to pronounce it though…)
