Space Is Cool

Leds Defender is a refreshing take on two very overpopulated genres. It takes the ever-classic Space Invaders and combines it with a pattern memory game; it even throws in a bit of neon glamour as well!

You must defend your base against waves of glowing-LED enemies, but instead of the usual turret builder, you take the role of a hacker, who has to put in the right codes to blow each oncoming baddie up. To do this you’re played a pattern on the screen which you then have to repeat back in the correct order, if successful…Kaboom!

One thing that is really intriguing about this game is the difficulty understanding even the home screen to start with. Everything is made up from neon dots and you rely on your gaming experience to figure out what all the symbols mean. (For those who get frustrated or confused there is a menu which explains most things.) I can see how this could be a negative for some players, but I found it all very charming and it made me use my brain, which can only be a good thing.

Pro:

  • An interesting and unique combination of a tower defense and memory game
  •  Looks and sounds fantastic
  •  It’s free

Cons:

  •  Essentially the game is all about repeating patterns, this can get a little repetitive (obviously!)
  •  A few different elements/levels could be added to break up the gameplay

If you’re looking for something different to play about with and you can’t resist a bit of neon, Leds Defender is definitely worth a look in.
