Coooby the Run is a pop art extravaganza of a platform runner, like the brainchild of Andy Warhol had he been born in 2014 Tokyo and was really into simple video games.

Arithmetic’s latest app seems to be designed for a post-club experience when everyone is coming down from the night before and want some visuals to trip out on, accompanied by a belting techno soundtrack. Navigate the wacky homescreen to get into the action and your devilish little avatar is entered into a race against, well, other devilish little avatars.

Choose a location and enjoy the barmy landscape as your character skids along the level, trying to avoid all of the weird obstacles that lie in its way. Your one command over Coooby is to make him jump by tapping the screen; you can also make him jump on thin air by continually tapping the screen, causing him to float higher and higher over the steep cliffs that jut out of the ground.

As with many platform runners, there are special treats to collect along the way, in particular the apples that you can trade for seedlings for your garden (accessible via the homescreen), which, in turn grows a ‘Durian’ that you can then trade for cooler avatars.

A positive aspect of the game is that you can play online with your friends at any time; just find them on Facebook or Twitter and challenge them to a quick race. The more players that sign up to the game, the more action-packed the landscape becomes.

There is also a range of other activities such as Durian Roulette that can earn you more Durians (still not quite sure what a Durian is, but I know that it is the best currency in the wacky world of Coooby). Oh, and the music will get you so pumped up for a night out that you may just head out on the town anyway; well, I guess you could play Coooby in the taxi to the club…
