Chug the Bug is an impressive interactive storybook that is fun, yet educational for young minds. What better way to test out this app than to try it out on my 4-year-old niece. The story captured her attention more on the larger iPad screen and she was really impressed by the 3D illustrations. The hints were turned on in the settings, so it was easier for her to see and find the interactive items and hidden surprises on each page, which she absolutely enjoyed discovering. The characters are fun, colourful and grab the attention of the target audience well. She likes the auto play option before bed, as the story unfolds like a movie.
The ‘read to me’ option is really useful, as the story is narrated with each spoken word highlighted, making it easier to follow. The rhyming language used throughout the story is also very educational and makes the story flow well. Other educational elements include, children learning about the different insects and the occurring events are relevant to them, such as starting school and making friends. The app is also a useful tool for reading and storytelling. The illustrations, interactive features and 3D elements are real highlights of the app.
If I had to make any recommendations, it would be to continue creating a ‘Chug the Bug’ series of eBooks and differentiate them to suit a wider age range of children, starting from the very young.

My 3 year old daughter loves watching all kids programmes using the SkyGo app. If there is any delay she asks me “mummy, is it frozen or buffering?”. Lol.
I work in IT and she must of picked up the tech lingo!
