This upcoming space-themed puzzle game will have all you sci-fi movie geeks weak at the knees. I really enjoyed reviewing the free version of Aphelion, yet, as usual, once I’d paid the small sum for the full version that introduced many new features, the true potential of the game was unlocked. I suggest that you do too; it’s only a buck after all!
Beautiful Atmospheric Design
Upon first launching the app, players are put right in the scene. The first thing you’ll notice is the glowing planetary cube, with the glaring sun creating a stunning ecliptic visual and the techy matrix-style background in the distance.
Impressive Selection of Game Modes
Starting the game, you will be faced with a number of vague options, including ‘Getting Started’, ‘Entertain Me’, ‘Challenge Me’, and ‘Is This Possible?’ Out of curiosity, I tried each of the options to find that they each take you to a similar place. ‘Getting Started’ is an obvious one, taking me to the first, most basic level. The other three options increase in difficulty and soon I was skipping straight to the ‘Challenge Me’ section…where I got pleasantly stuck for a long while.
The Aim of the Game
When entering a game level, a grid will open, on which you will find a number of moveable characters and target squares. The challenge of Aphelion is to move each of the characters onto the target squares by sliding your finger. With various obstacles in the way, this is made increasingly difficult as you progress through the levels.
Conquer the Cube and Share
You get scored based on the number of moves required to match each character up with their finishing position, and the time is takes to do so. When it starts to get too tough, which it definitely will, you can use one of the three hints which are gifted to you at the beginning of the game.
