Travelzoo: The City Traveller’s Ultimate Companion (Sponsored)

When I went backpacking around South East Asia, well before the iPhone was even a twinkle in Steve Jobs’ eye, I thought that the most essential piece of equipment that I could take with me was Imodium. I wasn’t far wrong (ever had rat curry in Malaysia? You know what I’m talking about…), but now there is an invention that has surpassed even the hardiest of gut-blockers in terms of necessity: the Travelzoo app.

Anyone who wants to save cash on their travels (and I realise that this describes pretty much every traveller), will benefit hugely from downloading this free app; Travelzoo have been supplying travellers with the best discounts and deals for a whopping 14 years and their iPhone app serves as a particularly useful extension of their impressive website.

The main deals that are on the site and the app include restaurant deals, hotel stays and city breaks; essentially, everything that you get on sites like Groupon and LivingSocial, with massive discounts available.

My favourite aspect of the app is the ‘Top 20’ list, in which the 20 best deals in the area that you are travelling in are listed on the app and you can try and snag them before they get snapped up by one of the other 24,999,999 Travelzoo users. You can use the in-line browser to book, or call the agents directly from the app; clearly speed is of the essence in bagging theses bargains, so you have to be quick on your toes (or fingers). If you want to store your credit card details on the app for even quicker response times, this is also an option.

Even if you don’t like leaving your hometown, Travelzoo may earn a place for itself on your iPhone’s home screen, seeing as there are plenty of deals to grab in your own city.

Room For Improvement

Whilst I like the fact that you can search for city-specific deals, perhaps a more pinpointed function could be in place for when you are on the go, e.g. searching for a nearby restaurant or hotel for the night.
