There’s a certain amount of prestige and honor that I feel when I complete a wordsearch; I almost feel like carrying it around with me all day just in case anyone asks me to empty my pockets and I can show the security guard/mugger my finished puzzle. Well, I don’t have to worry about carrying scraps of paper around with me any more, as Puzzler Media LTD have brought out an iPhone and iPad app that makes the act of scrawling answers on paper obsolete.
Anyone fan of a wordsearch or kriss kross will fall in love with this simple but very effective iPhone app that consists of a very wide selection of wordsearch puzzles that cover various themes, ranging from items bought at the chemist to culinary starters in a meal.
The graphics and layout of this app are simple but effective; you have the option to double tap the screen in order to enlarge and pan around the grids, giving you a bigger area to work with. You can also choose from a selection of various sizes and themes to keep your subconscious entertained as you focus on the jumble of letters in front of you.
What I love about this app is that there are unlimited hints to help you find the words that are too tricky to find; if you want to finish a puzzle in a couple of minutes, just tap away at the ‘hint’ button and start uncovering those strings of letters!
Summary
As puzzle apps go, this one is on the easier end of the spectrum with the clues being much simpler to solve than games such as crosswords or Sudoku; however, if you fancy a fun way to kill a few minutes or want to keep a kid entertained for quite a while, Puzzler Wordsearch is perfect.
Pros
- The drag-to-highlight feature makes selecting words easy as pie.
- You can pause the game in order to try and beat your top time as you nip to the toilet.
- Some of the words in the puzzle are pretty impressive, so it means that you can build up your vocabulary whilst playing!
Room For Improvement
As is the case with many puzzle games, there would be greater depth if there was some form of multiplayer function that allowed you to challenge other people who own the app.
