Since devices such as the iPad and Kindle have changed the way that we read literature forever, it stands to reason that apps should get in on the revolution as well; enter, Snippet. Snippet is a free app that gives users a brand new way to read and write, directly engaging with authors via the use of hashtags and lets them share their content as they discover it.
The layout of the app is smooth and intuitive and you can browse through a plethora of detailed genres. Once you’ve found a snippet that you like the look of, you can download it for anything from $0.99 to $4.99. The snippets are designed to fit the iPad and other such devices, so you can really get a full experience from them instead of forever pinching at the screen to shrink or enlarge the text.
What I really liked about the app is that it integrates so well with cutting edge media; snippets are full of photos, audio recordings and videos that are supportive of and related to the text. Literary purists may shrink away at this concept but anyone who enjoys reading blogs, websites, online updates and social media feeds (so, pretty much everyone, right?) will love the innovative experience.
Each chapter of each snippet is 1,000 words or fewer, so you can easily digest a few of them per day; this is a great way to discover new authors. Plus, if you’re a budding writer yourself then the Writer Dashboard gives future scribes the opportunity to share content, publish and then monetize their work.
This app is at the vanguard of new reading experiences; I recommend getting on this bandwagon at the beginning.
