Plague Inc iPhone App Review
EXTERMINATE

Ever wanted to invent a deadly virus and destroy humanity? This might just be the game for you!

There is no back story here, just a cold hard human-killing plague. You take on the role of some bacteria, earning points when someone is infected. You use these points to evolve – would you like to give people hideous boils, give them extreme diarrhoea, or make them go mad through sleep deprivation?

Although the symptoms may sound disgusting (which they are), the graphics of the game are simple enough to not make you vomit on your iPhone. You are presented with a world map, in which you can watch countries turn from green to red as your plague infects person after person…that is until the population figures out what’s going on and starts to try to find a cure. Then it becomes a race against time to kill them all off before they kill you!

The controls are simple and the main part of the game is scrolling through options and stats to try to manage your points correctly to make sure your plague is a success. Although visually there is not much going on, the management element to the game makes it incredibly addictive. And once you’ve successfully completed the game using bacteria, you can then unlock other plagues such as Virus, Fungus and eventually a Bio-Weapon!

Pros:

  • Addictive pick-up-and-play game style
  • Lots of creative combinations to effect the evolution of your plague
  • You can set the starting point in any country you like, adding another dimension to the challenge.

Cons:

  • To advance to different plagues you have to complete each one in normal mode – I found this quite difficult and am currently only on the second level!

Although the concept is quite grim, this is actually a fun little game. You can really see that the developers have put an awful lot of time and effort into adding clever touches here and there to make this a great game.

  1. A thumbs up for originality, as I don’t think i have come across another app with the same concept.
