It’s a waste to have an iOS device and not make use of its multimedia abilities. If you are determined to get the most from your iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad, you’ve probably been on the lookout for an app like SpeedUpTV.
Like the name says, you can use this little beauty to speed up playback of video files—up to 2X their usual speed. You can also slow them down, and you can find your favorite clips easily with the scene browser. On top of that, there’s a loop feature, and a ton of extra add-ins to make your iOS multimedia experience better.
You don’t have to be an aspiring film student to use SpeedUpTV. Controls for the video player are similar to the native iOS player, you’ve just got some extra options. The folder manager and file viewer are also laid out in a way that will be immediately understandable to anyone familiar with iOS.
One thing I loved about this app was the wired transfer. That’s right, wired. Transfers are managed with the use of a USB cable (to or from PC/Mac), and it was actually nice to put the headache of wireless behind me, even if it was a little old-school. Another very nice feature? Creating hidden/passworded folders with the manager was super-simple and very effective.
There are a couple of things that disappointed me. The inability to support files other than .mp3, .mov, and .m4v really limits on what you can watch. It would be greatly appreciated if SpeedUpTV supported other video formats. In addition, after the novelty of speeding up (or slowing down) video files wears off there really isn’t much to do. However, I can see this app being extremely useful for studying a foreign language and those struggling with your spanish videos might find this app quite useful.
SpeedUpTV looks good—clean, has a simple design and is exactly what’s called for in a functional application like this.
It’s also very reasonably priced at $.99. SpeedUpTV is compatible with iOS 4.0 and up, and it’s a great way to make your iOS device more multimedia-friendly.
