They say that the ability to play and read music is one of the best tools that you can use for overall brain development, growth and maintenance. It should come as no surprise then that it’s pretty bloody difficult to master and is said to be as much of a feat as learning a new language. Like all great challenges in life ‘a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down’ and Mozart 2 Pro by RoGame Software has done just that by making learning to read sheet music into a fun and engaging game for all ages and levels.
The premise of the game is rather simple and based upon the school of thought that ‘practice makes perfect’. The interface is clean and simple with the screen being divided into two sections; on the top you’ll see musical notes moving towards a treble clef, on the lower half will be your instrument of choice (the default is a piano but you can choose between the banjo, bass, cello, double bass, guitar, mandolin, viola and violin).
The aim of the game is to try and hit the corresponding notes on your instrument to the ones travelling across the screen, before they hit the treble clef. You have three lives and if they run out, it’s game over and you rinse and repeat from there. The premise vaguely resembles guitar hero in that your actions need to match that of the notes on the screen, however, there isn’t any kind of rhythm or song that you need to follow which makes it much easier to practice without any pressure.
The further the player progresses through the game the more notes they’ll have to play in order to stay alive. This will dramatically widen the range of notes that they’re exposed to, with the potential to graduate to multiple ledger lines both above and below the staff.
