What’s the age where you begin to feel behind the curve? Speaking of which, is ‘behind the curve’ even a phrase? Am I now so behind I’m actually ahead? Who knows. But no doubt there comes a time in everyone’s life when we feel like William Holden after he falls off his horse in Peckinpah classic The Wild Bunch. That time came for me as I was exploring this app, which is by no means a bad thing. In fact, it’s probably a testament. Social media is everything these days, but you don’t need me to tell you that. It comes at us from all angles, so you really need to do something special to stand out. And that’s exactly what Hang W/ does. It’s a live video broadcasting app that’s hip as all holy hell. It’s also free and out now for iOS and Android.

So the premise is, you gather followers as you would on any other social platform. You can also follow people back, and they subsequently appear in your feed/timeline, and you all know the drill by now. Hang w/’s U.S.P. is the fact that you can broadcast LIVE video. Which is pretty cool, and pretty exciting. When you’re ready to broadcast, you can alert all your followers who can then tune into your channel. The same works in reverse; when people you follow are broadcasting some slice of their own exciting lives, Hang W/ will tell you so you don’t miss a beat.

It’s immediate and it’s exciting. It’s also got its finger on the modern pulse, which might explain why Hang W/ has garnered over a million downloads and more than a fair few celebrity enthusiasts since its release. On the homepage you’ll find links to the most popular recent videos, which are watchable for a period after the live broadcasting. As well as this, there’s links to specific video-blogged careers, like /chefs, or featured feeds of its celebrity users (over 100 at last count).

Kudos to the developers for the innovative idea. It really does stand out, and it’s a seriously smart package. The interface is cool, clean and intuitive (even if it was an initial sensory overload for poor old Eric Compton here), and soon you’ll be flying through videos and with a little engagement, arranging your calendar around important broadcasts of friends, family and your favourite celebs. You don’t even have to use the app publicly if you don’t want to; there’s a privacy setting that lets you choose who you share with. Hang W/ is a serious new contender in the social arena who you can expect to hear a lot more from next year. Jump on this bandwagon now and start enjoying one of the most innovative and exciting apps of recent times.

Swing over to the App Store or Google Play Store to get involved with Hang W/ for free today! And bring yo’ friends!
