Yes ladies and gentlemen, the moment you’ve all been waiting for has finally arrived. Facebook has released their iPad app. While this is huge news, I’m not going to be talking about it. I’m going to be talking about the Facebook iPhone app, which has just been updated. In my opinion, this has got to be the biggest update yet. They completely scrapped the old look and brought in a slick, new, easy to use interface. Facebook on iPhone looks better than ever. Heres the scoop:
No More Home Page
The first thing you’ll notice when you open up the app is that it takes you straight to the news feed. That’s because news feed is the new home. You’ll now be able to access everything right from the news feed page. No more losing your place in the news feed because you had to go back to the home page to check something out. From now on, news is home. Im really glad that they did this, the new version makes the old version look like a complete waste of time. Why should we have to leave the page were on just to access our profile. We want to see everything in one place.
Friend Requests, Messages, and Notifications
Speaking of accessibility, Facebook has now placed the friend requests, messages, and notifications buttons on top of the screen. Or rather, on top of every screen, because no matter where you are in the app, those buttons will always be there. Up until now, we’d have to leave the news feed to see those buttons. But now, they’re always there, which is a huge improvement over the previous version.
New Bookmark Page
Facebook introduced something completely new- the bookmark page. To access it, click on the button in the top left corner. Once clicked, it will bring you a page from which you’ll be able to access the search bar, your profile, groups, events, and even all your apps and games, which until now weren’t even accessible from the app. I guess you could say that the bookmark page is like the old home page, but it doesn’t really feel like it, it feels more like this awesome menu that’s accessible at anytime.
In short, Facebook has really done an outstanding job. Really out of the ball park with this one. It’s not just that they made it easier to use, they also gave it a much nicer appearance. Before the update, the app was acting really slow and buggy, but they seem to have fixed that for the most part. Good job Zuck, I’m impressed.
