Both iOS 8 and the new iPhones have had enough time to settle in these past few weeks. Right now, an increasing number of games are taking advantage of the incredible Metal API, which is meant to boost the graphics and spice up both new and old video games available on iPads and iPhones. Here’s a detailed list of games that run cooler and shine brighter on iPhone 6, 6 Plus and iPad with iOS 8 Metal.
Badland
Pretty stylish and rather difficult to master, Badland is a physics-based platformer with incredible reviews and an Apple Design Award. If you haven’t had a chance to play it yet, make sure to download the latest version on iOS 8 and enjoy the surreal experience on an iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus. The developers have tweaked it to look better; they’ve also improved the play mode considering the new size of iPhone 6.
Leaf on the Wind
“Leaf on the Wind” was created by Mac gaming guru Pangea Software and it recently went through some astonishing upgrades. The video game is a comforting physics-based adventure which allows players to produce bursts of wind using finger swipes. In motion, “Leaf on the Wind” looks spectacular, particularly on iPhone 6. There are 30 levels to surpass; do you have what it takes to guide your pack of leaves safely?
Asphalt 8: Airborne
Asphalt 8 was among the very first video games to receive an iOS 8 upgrade. This incredible high-octane arcade racer got plenty of positive reviews from the critics upon release. In case you missed it, now it would be a great time to give it a try. On iOS 8, the graphics look better, the visuals have been improved, and the overall speed of the game is smoother than ever. Above everything else, it’s totally free to play.
Modern Combat 5: Blackout
Blackout went through some recent bug fixes. On iPad Air and iPhone 6, the game now looks better than ever, particularly since the developers have brought in several massive upgrades. Some experts claim that this 5th installment of the Modern Combat video game remains the greatest first-person shooter available on iOS. Featuring many multi-player modes, “Blackout” looks more like “Call of Duty” without being overly aggressive.
Aralon: Sword and Shadow
“Sword and Shadow” made its entrance on iOS back in 2010. It was an incredible open-world RPG action game with elements we see today in Skyrim and Elder Scrolls Oblivion. Over the year, Aralon went through several massive upgrades in presentation and gameplay. The latest 5.0 version requires iOS 8, but it will be worth the upgrade. The graphics have major improvements, and playing this game on iPhone 6 will certainly amaze avid gamers.
Prime World: Defenders
“Defenders” mixes collectible card game elements with a typical tower defense gameplay. Recently upgraded for iOS 8, players must gather towers, spells and traps in order to move ahead in the game. Create exciting strategies by earning sets of cards right after each battle and protect yourself against the enemies by using your powers – freeze, poison, slash and burn. Leaving aside the incredible story-driven action play, “Defenders” highlights a unique set of custom missions available for players. Play the game on your iPad or iPhone 6 and you’ll have a blast.
As soon as iOS 8 came out and Apple announced the release of the Metal API, game developers placed their works of art into ‘quarantine’. A lot of famous video games are going through massive upgrades as we speak. Let’s just hope the end result lives up to the expectations of the enthusiastic gamer.
