Wolfram Astronomy Course Assistant iPhone App Review
Wolfram Astronomy Course Assistant is advertised as being the app best suited for all Astronomy students. Sort of like their own personal Cliff Notes. Most astronomy tools show you a bunch of pictures of pretty stars and lights, but there is much more to astronomy than that. Wolfram Astronomy Course Assistant is packed with tons of useful tools that will help you in your Astronomy 101 course. This app has formulas, fact checking, homework help and exam help.

Some of the things you can do with this app:

  • Get an overview and effects of constellations and proper motion
  • Learn the Moon phases
  • Study the solar system
  • Learn about the season
  • Why do we have meteor showers?
  • Learn about the black hole

Pros: This one thing that stands out the most for me is that they were able to put a handful of basic astronomy book material into this app. It is amazing all of the different things it includes. Honestly, I think this is a great app for non-students as well. This app is perfect for anyone who loves astronomy.

Cons: We played with this app for two months. It never crashed, never got buggy and I don’t even think it went through an update. It simply is amazing. We can’t seem to find anything wrong with it.
We do think it would be a good investment if the company did an expansion pack to buy or a completely separate app in order to gain the interest of those who are out of the introductory astronomy courses and books.

Summary: While this is a handy and useful app to have at your fingertips, unless you are really into astronomy you may not want to fork over the $5. But, if you’re loving the stars as much as we do, $5 is a small price to pay to have access to all things of the sky right at your fingertips.
