After recently moving to the big smoke that is London, I find myself on endless tube journeys exhausting every newspaper on offer during my daily commute. Enter the Kindle app from Amazon. With over 630,000 books on offer in the Kindle store, including the latest best sellers and new releases, this app offers a new source for reading your favourite novels whether on the move or whilst at home.

A drawback of the app is that it enters an already flooded market, with several similar apps available it struggles slightly to differentiate itself within a very competitive market. However, with additional quirky features such as Amazon Whispersync, which automatically syncs the last page that you read, and also bookmarks, notes, and highlights, across various platforms including the iPad, iPhone and iPod touch, you are always able to pick up right from where you left it no matter what device you are reading on.

With its easy-to-use functionality and crisp design, the Kindle is a must have for avid readers, and those who wish to start reading more regularly. It comes with the usual iPhone features including the ability to read in portrait or landscape and highlighting various parts of any given text. It also comes with a very helpful instant dictionary word look-up feature allowing you to view instant definitions of any vocabulary that you may be unfamiliar with.

As a free app and considering what it offers, there is no doubt that it is worth having on your iPhone as it may come in handy but does require being tied to Amazon. However, saving you the hassle of carrying around books, it delivers a clear and beautifully presented version of most of your favourite novels and will surely be a long-term runner in the App Store’s top 25.
