If a picture tells a thousand words then the surfeit of selfies, snaps and silly little photos that are uploaded every day amounts to an infinite novel that we will never get the chance to read. However, a new image and interest social networking app Yapert provides the CliffsNotes version so we can all flick through the bits that we want to look at.

Signing up to a Yapert account takes less than 30 seconds and the flashy design takes you to your options page, at which users select their preferred categories. You can choose from Music, Film & TV and Sports to Health & Fitness, Celebrities and Teen. Each category has a selection of subsections that will lead to various accounts within that area.

Being a music fan, I went straight to the bands’ section and started picking out artists to follow. I have to admit that I was a little worried when One Direction popped up on my news feed but I was soon able to replace the little runts with some more appropriate bands. The Alternative section of the Music area was pretty comprehensive and I was impressed when I saw that I could add Minus The Bear, Coheed and Cambria and Alice in Chains to my feed.

Yapert works like many other social networking amalgamation apps in that it streams your preferred artists’ latest shots and videos straight to your home feed. You can then ‘favourite’ the photos, share them on Pinterest, Twitter, Facebook, et al. or comment on them. Each user has a set of ‘stacks’ that they can add their favourite photos to, sorting them into relevant piles and chucking a label on them, such as ‘Best Green Day Photos’ or ‘Secret One Direction Snaps’ (the choice is up to you).

What’s really impressive about Yapert is the sheer volume of pictures that are uploaded every day. The high-tech filtering process that allows this is beyond my simple brain, but it seems to collect any relevant photo attributed to a certain person, artist, theme or brand and present it in a revolving loop on your home screen.

What’s exciting about Yapert’s future is that they plan to encourage fan collaborations so that people who follow a particular shared interest will be able to create group ‘stacks’ and share them amongst each other.

The layout of the app is really intuitive and easy to use; it’s also a fantastic way to keep up with your favourite celebrities, artists, hobbies and sports. It’s totally free and it also obviates the need to follow certain pages on Facebook that clog up your feed with photos as all of the snaps that you want will be compiled in one tidy little app.

All in all, a BIG thumbs up from me.
