Top 10 Free iPad Games Of 2011

I have compiled a list of the top free iPad games which combines classic must have games that were updated in 2011 with some newly released games that will almost certainly not stay free forever! I have left of out the very popular Cut the Rope and Fruit Ninja which are really just the HD version of the super popular iPhone games. Angry Birds on the other hand deserves to be on the list because the HD iPad version really provides a much better experience making use of the big screen. So, here you are, the top free iPad games of 2011!

1. Angry Birds Rio HD Free

They have done it again! Following their unprecedented success with their iPhone game, developers Rovio have reached number 1 with their iPad version! It definitely deserves to be on this list, as the iPad’s larger screen allows the gameplay to be enhanced to a degree that simply can’t be reached on the iPhone’s smaller display.

2. Hungry Shark – Part 1 HD

This is a very fun game; although the first version had some bugs reported, when I tried the latest version updated in March 2011 everything worked fine. This vicious yet amusing app puts the player in control of a shark that clearly hasn’t eaten in a while. It is your job to keep your ravenous predator alive, and the only way to do this is by munching anything in your path. Innocent fish floating past or people minding their own business are on the menu. The more your shark eats, the bigger and stronger he gets. Just watch out for the hunters who aim to end your lunchtime in the most brutal of ways – only they can stop your dominance of the ocean. It must be said that this game isn’t for the faint-hearted as we are not dealing with a cuddly, animated animal. The blood dripping from his teeth signifies that this is a game to be taken seriously.

3. Men VS Machines –

This app is very similar to the popular Gun Bros but free, (or at least for the time being), so it’s definitely worth snapping up! Fight alongside your Facebook friends in multiplayer mode as you battle for survival in the first age of machines, using high powered, futuristic weapons to destroy your enemies!

4. Istunt2 HD – insane hills

My favourite. I love fun fast moving games where I don’t need to think a lot or read a manual; plus, the music is awesome and the scenery is beautiful. All you have to do is to control the balance of the snowboarder by tilting your iPad, then as you progress to new levels there are new challenges and options all explained to you with clear on-screen instructions. Built for iPad and released on 12 April, this game is already a big success with raving reviews on the appstore. I wouldn’t expect this game to stay free for a very long time so I would recommend grabbing your copy while it lasts. For a new game, the graphics are some of the best I have ever seen.

5. Braveheart HD –

The April update to this action role-playing game adds another 7 new levels where you can thrash and smash your enemies on your quest for the Holy Grail. As a strategy game, it is just hard enough to keep you hooked in whilst remaining entertaining enough not to leave you bored. The graphics are absolutely great and there is a bit of learning involved with this game; it’s not self evidently intuitive, as there aren’t many onscreen instructions.

6. Snooker Club

For any budding snooker players out there, a good way to hone your aim is to practice on Snooker Club, the free game for iPad. Given the iPad’s large screen, the gameplay feels a little more realistic than it would on the iPhone; the graphics are really good and you can play with a variety of players…(however guys, they are all female, so you can’t have any sexist hang ups about this!)

7. Real Solitaire Free HD –

They say that Solitaire is a lonely man’s game; this may be true, however I can be quite content with my own company as long as I have this cool little free iPad game with me! With loads of different backgrounds to choose from, you can play the age-old card game that provides you with intelligent hints if you get a little stuck.

8. Pocket Legends (3D MMO) –

The fact that Pocket Legends is free is a minor miracle amongst gaming fans, considering how damn good the game play is. The graphics are well above average and you can engage in a unique Mobile MMORPG, (or ‘massively-multiplayer online role-playing game’, for the acronym-ically ignorant!) You can play with many different characters such as the powerful bear-like Ursan Warrior, mystical Elf Enchantress, or Avian Archer in this brilliant fantasy game.

9. Paper Football HD –

For anyone who has ever needed to kill time in class, (or even at work, you kidults, you!), this game is for you. Its beauty lies in is its simplicity, as it recreates the classic game of flicking a folded-up paper football to hang over the edge of a table…sound familiar? If not, check it out, it’s so much fun! (Of course, you could just play with a real piece of paper for a millionth of the price of an iPad, but that would be too easy…!)

10. Pin Shuffle™ HD (Bowling) Lite –

Calling all bowling fans who think that it’s just a little too much effort to strap on a pair of bowling shoes and travel all the way to the bowling alley only to be overcharged by some squeaky-voiced teenager for the rental of a lane that you can only be on for 20 minutes…just download this iPad game for free! With stunning graphics and animation, the Real 3D physics engine gives you accurate weight and pin physics and the innovative ‘Full House’ competition adds a little edge to the game play…strike!
