Of all of the Batman bad guys, one of my favourite has to be The Riddler; sure he’s not as cool as The Joker or creepy as The Penguin (or as sexy as Catwoman!), but he certainly knows the value of a good puzzle. I’d like to think that we’d bond over Puzzle World 2, an engaging and entertaining iPhone app that has had me glued to the screen for the past week.
Seeing as it holds the highest ranking for a free Word and Puzzle game on the UK App Store, I was expecting Puzzle World 2 to blow my socks off; let me tell you, my feet have been chilly ever since I started playing! The gaming app blends a variety of classic word and number puzzles such as ‘wordsearch’, ‘Sudoku’ and ‘Crossword’ as more arcane games such as Fitword and Link A Pix. This is what is available on the free version and it’s more than enough to keep you going for a long while; however, if you do want to shell out a little cash, you can buy and download up to 1100 more games, should you wish to satisfy your appetite for brain teasers!
The game’s graphics are simple yet effective, with a smooth flow between moves and fun effects like crossing out the words on a wordsearch and filling in the blank spaces in crossword. Sure, you don’t really eed an iPad 3 retina display to appreciate it but we’re not exactly playing Infinity Blade II now, are we?!
You start off in Challenge Mode, which is the simplest style of game play; all you have to do is win each round (this can be harder than it sounds!), to progress through stages, with the odd bonus game thrown in once you complete each puzzle. My favourite bonus game is Hangman as it is the most challenging in terms of memory recollection but the most rewarding when it comes to filling in those blanks!
As you progress throughout the game, you can win tokens that will help unlock levels in Master Mode; essentially, it’s best just to win, win, win…I realise that I’m channelling Charlie Sheen right now. (You can also win huge trophies that are great for lauding over your friends…if you have any left after the hours and hours spent tapping away at this game!)
Summary
If you like puzzles, brainteasers or any iPhone game that actually challenges your mental capacity, you will love this game. Oh, and it’s free. And you are waiting for…what?!
Pros
- You get 9 games that will keep you ticking over for a good long while and you pay absolutely bupkis.
- The fact that it’s only 69p (a buck) to upgrade to a lot more levels is, well, pretty attractive.
Room for improvement
- In app purchases can always vex some people but for what you get it’s well worth th small expenditure.
This looks like my kind of app!
Just in time for The Dark Knight Rises! To bad The Ridder won’t be in it.
Looks like there’s a lot of content with this one 🙂
