iPhoneAppCafe would like to offer our sincerest condolences to anyone affected by the earthquake and tsunami that has devastated Japan. The gadgets industry has responded with millions of dollars in cash, equipment and services in order to help with the relief effort. Canon, Panasonic, and Sony have each donated ¥300 million ($3.67 million).  Sony is also matching employee contributions as will Mitsubishi who’s donating a whopping ¥500 million ($6.1 million) in aid.  Our hearts and thoughts go out to all those affected by this disaster and let us all pray that relief will come soon to those who need it.

Apple may have sold between 400,000 to 500,000 units of the iPad 2 it’s inaugural weekend, compared with 300,000 of the original iPad sold during its debut weekend last April; this exceeded the company’s expectations, according to Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster.

In other iPad news, Piper Jaffray analysts state that 70% of iPad 2 buyers are new customers. Results from an informal survey of 236 people waiting in line suggests 70% of those customers purchasing the iPad 2 were first-time iPad buyers; does that mean that people are satisfied with their iPad 1G, or not?!
