Whether you are a music fan who just likes to listen, or somebody whose hobbies include making music, there are plenty of mobile apps that will allow you to get your groove on whilst on the move.

Creating Music

If you’re just looking to have a bit of fun, AutoRap is a great app, which allows you to speak (or badly rap) into it, and it will match your syllables to a beat. There is a free version available, however, if you want a larger selection of beats to rap to, you can always upgrade to the Premium Songs Catalogue.

Musyc is a fun app that allows you to create music by drawing shapes on the screen. With 88 instruments to choose from, there is plenty to experiment with, and it certainly beats trying to play piano or guitar chords on something the size of a phone screen. Again, there are free and premium versions to choose from, so you can give the free version a go, and if you like it, upgrade to the premium version which has more features.

Listening to Music

There are so many apps out there for listening to music that it can be difficult to choose which one is the best. Spotify is perhaps the most well-known, and for good reason, as it has a huge library of over 20 million songs to choose from. The app itself is free, and will allow you to listen to a shuffle of a chosen artist, album or genre, with adverts in-between. If you want an uninterrupted experience, you can always subscribe to the service, which will allow you to pick exactly what you are listening to without adverts, and will also allow you to download songs to your phone to listen to on the move.

Google Play Music offers a streaming service, similar to Spotify, but also has a bonus of allowing you to upload your own music to the system. This means that if there is something missing from its huge library, you can still play it, and listening to songs you already own is free of charge. This means you can take your entire music collection with you, without it taking up any space on your phone. You can download songs to listen to offline, so if you don’t have a huge data allowance, you can always download the songs on your fibre optic broadband connection at home, before listening to the music on the move.

Other Music Apps

If you are one of those people who finds it frustrating when being in a shop, bar or restaurant and a song you like comes on, but you don’t know what it is, then Shazam is the ideal app for you. Play a short clip of music to the app, and it will quickly come back and tell you what the song is. From there, you will be given the choice to listen to it on YouTube or Rdio, and if you opt for the upgraded version, you can skip straight to the song on Spotify or Pandora.
