The gold rush of app development may have slowed to a crawl but there are still plenty of ways to make a quick buck in the wonderful world of smartphone apps. One of the easiest, albeit most risky, schemes is through online gambling via your smartphone. Your money can double, triple and quadruple in a matter of seconds. If you want to research some of the top online casinos then certain sites can be a great starting point to head safely into the exciting world of smartphone gambling. However, there are a few scams that one has to be mindful of when entering this world of online gambling; here are a few pitfalls to avoid.

1. Gambler’s Fallacy

So, you know those banner ads that promise you instant riches simply by revealing an esoteric trick to beat the odds at roulette? I’m more than a little ashamed to say that, in my penniless student days, I clicked one. And almost lost everything.

The premise behind the trick is simple and actually works in theory; the gambler bets a set amount on red or black and if he wins, he keeps the winnings and continues to bet the same amount. If he loses, however, he simply doubles the bet and plays again, repeating this process until he wins back the money that he lost. Nice, huh?

I was almost about to go and bet my remaining student loan at the roulette game that the banner ad directed me too, thinking that I couldn’t fail, before I realized that a run of bad luck would wipe me out completely, i.e. this theory only works if you have an infinite supply of cash!

2. Untrustworthy sites and apps

If you win at the casino, it’s a case of cashing your chips in at the counter, accepting your free cocktail and fighting off all of the new ‘friends’ that you’ve made at the table on your way back to the hotel room to pass out on a money-scattered bed. Trying to claim on a pirate or unauthorized app or website, however, is a little harder.

They can ‘lose’ your details, wipe your account clean and even ask you to sign up for extravagant member fees in order to withdraw cash – the way to avoid falling into this trap? Do your research. Check for testimonials, official approvals and never hand over your details until you are 100% satisfied that the site is kosher.
