Android is known for its independent attitude. It’s not the polished darling child of Apple, and so it gets hated on a lot. But, for all of its faults, ‘Droids have some seriously good entertainment apps. If you’ve never really explored the capabilities of your device, check this list out.

1. Vuze

The Vuze Torrent Downloader is a mini version of the company’s desktop torrent client. With it you can search for, download, and share files with anyone that has a torrent client.

This app will even allow you to categorize files you download and then set them up on auto-transcoding. That means it will save (move) the file to another device of your choosing, creating the file type necessary to open and use the file on the target device. Wow. Just remember to respect IP.

2. IMDb

This is the app you want if you love movies. If you’ve ever spent hours trying to remember that actor you once saw in a movie a long time ago, IMDb can help you figure out “who done it.” Its extensive catalog of actors, from both movies and TV shows, contains all known works by the actor, background information, and interesting tidbits that aren’t always advertised in mainstream media channels.

For example, do you know all of the movies that Gary Oldman has been in? Most people recognize him from the new ‘Dark Knight’ Batman series, but he’s been around for a long time. Did you miss his epic character in the 90s flick ‘True Romance?’ What about ‘The Fifth Element’?

3. NetFlix

Netflix-Android

Netflix is the most awesome Android app in the app store. OK, maybe it’s not so awesome if you don’t have the service. But, if you do, then this app gives you full access to all of the TV shows and movies the service offers. This is a great app when you’re staying with relatives who are out of town, or if you’re on a business trip and a little bored with the local nightlife.

4. WWE

When you were a kid, you watched “rasslin”. Go on, admit it. This app, from World Wrestling Entertainment Inc. lets you take WWE with you anywhere you go. There are thousands of photos, the newest videos, and a 24/7 streaming service with both scheduled programming and a massive on-demand library.

This company has been around for a very long time, and it’s built up a stunning library of matches. When you watch WWE network on another screen, and Monday Night Raw or Friday Night SmackDown on T.V., you’ll gain access to exclusive ‘secondscreen companion’ content.

5. Red Bull TV

It’s more than just an energy drink. This company has become the ‘wow’ company in just a few short years. You may have remembered that dude who jumped out of a small space capsule and then rocketed toward the Earth before deploying his parachute and landing safely. Yeah, that whole thing was sponsored by Red Bull.

And, now, they have their own TV. Download the app, and you’ll be inundated with extreme sports and other truly fascinating video. Best part? It’s free.
